UCLA Show with Mix Master Mike, Grandwizzard Theodore

Hi all, I'm a student at UCLA and I just got back from tonight's show. It was amazing. I hadn't seen Z Trip in concert before and he blew me away tonight. His was definitely the best set of the night, better than Mix Master Mike.

The blend of rock with hip hop is pure genius and I can't wait for the new album to hit stores. I'm not sure exactly what the setlist was but it included Jurassic 5, Rage Against the Machine against Michael Jackson's Thriller, and my personal favorite Oasis's Wonderwall. Throwing Nirvana into the mix was very gutsy as well but it totally fit.

Later in the night, Mix Master Mike and Z Trip did a scratch session that lasted about 10 minutes. That was a blast.

Mix Master Mike recorded Z Trip's set with a digital video camcorder and Z Trip said during his set that the show will be on the DVD, so look for that to be released in the near future.

Once again, thanks for an amazing night, Z Trip!

I bought both your CD's available at the show and am listening to them as I write this article.

ha ha ha. Another convert. Good show Z. I am uploading my pictures while listening to the minidisc recording of the show. Someday I will get that online too. My buddy got his head split open during smells like teen spirit. The EMT said he needed stitches but he asked for a band aid and went back in to catch the rest of Z's set. Z once again stole the show.

Check out the pictures!

Respect.

what a great nite it was indeed. and i aint even a UCLA student. thank you Z-TRIP. i agree w/ you ELI, Z-TRIP stole the show. the crowd was gettin crazier and crazier w/ every new mix he dropped. i enjoyed watching grand wizzard and mix master too (even met mix master right before the show began and he asked me if I knew where the auditorium for the show was located...,when i was gonna ask him the same exact question??-gave me props too cause i was sporting a z-trip shirt)

the lil freestyle mini-set w/ Z and mix master was so fuckin dope. that was some of the best scratchin that i've ever experienced live and up-close like that. so yeah,

THANK YOU....
GRAND WIZZARD THEODORE, MIX MASTER MIKE, and ofcourse, the master blaster himself, DJ Z-TRIP. thank you guy's for a great great show. definitely an experience that will stick w/ me forever

peace out daVid

one last thing...gotta give some props to trevor "t-bone"...he bled for Z-TRIP yall. (ELI wrote about it on the previous post)and to the guy who slammed his new tacoma into a parked car. NICE

thats why i wear a helmet

The highlight of the night was the ztrip and mix master session at the end. The other highlight was seeing mike perform live for the first time. The other highlight was seeing my boy running out of the crowd with blood pouring off his head. And last, the highlight was seeing the car crash out on gayley afterwards.

That might have been my favorite ztrip show yet.

PEACE

great show. mixmaster mike was ridiculous (in a good way). z tore it as usual. i felt way young there. especially when me and my buddy were the only people in a 20 foot radius who yelled "don't get high off your own supply" during dopeman. damn kids. the "battle" at the end was bitchen. good contrast of scratching which went very well together. and was well worth the speeding ticket i got on the way home. was going 100, got a ticket for 80. nice cop, thanks. sleep now.

Those tickets were definitely the best thing I've ever won. What the hell was up with "Dopeman"? No one around me at all knew the words. The freestyle w/ MMM gave me perma-grim, and the Tool/Outkast blend was a new suprise for me.

I do have two questions for the people that went-

1. Do you think that Mike has had alien technology implanted in his hands? All I could do was drop my jaw, and go, "Oooo sh..."

2. Could anyone see the label on the Van Halen "Runnin' w/ the Devil" accapella? The mystery must be solved...

I picked up a spare Uneasy Listening. I'm sleeping better at night now.

regarding MMM - holy fuck.

regarding van halen - i think it was a cd. i think z has some hookups.

question for z - the "shake that ass"... is that by lounge against the machine? i must have it. now.

show was the shit as i expected. seeing that kid bleeding everywhere was crazy.

but i think the best part was when the crowd made those 3 dudes "hosting" the show look stupid. who's boys were those? who allowed them to take the stage and act like fucking morons?

i don't think anyone wants to claim those fools.

Just wondering...am I the only one this happens to? You hear a Tool song come on the radio and for a couple of seconds - just a couple of seconds - you think, "Wait - is that? That's Jethro Tul...oh no it's just Tool" Is it just me? Anyone?

Let me just say right now I had a blast. I forced one of my friends to come along and she even had a great time. I loved rainy day woman. I will drive 3 hours again anytime for a show like that. I can't believe I got to see a show like that for free. Once again thank you, thank you. Travis, I would just like to thank your wisconsin ass for helping me win!!!! It was amazing!!! I need another Z Trip fix soon though.

The show was obviously hype.

Grand Wizard Theodore - Could have rocked it, but didn't. Dissapointing, but always good to see a legend at work.

Z Trip - I'mnot even gonna go into details. He rocked it.

MMM - Rocked it.

Z and MMM - Rocked it to the tenth degree.

Kid who busted his head open - Thanks a lot for being a drunk moron yelling shit out and bumping into the people around you because you couldn't handle your alcohol. Hint: People at a hip hop show who are intently watching the DJ at work generally DO NOT want to make contact with a sweaty drunk frat boy such as yourself, especially when that contact is you not realizing people like their personal space. Someone probably took their elbow to your head cause you were annoying the shit out of everyone around you. What goes around...

Anywho...good show. Looking forward to Z Trip at EDC.

You talk a lot of shit for having one post under your belt. I don't know why people get angry when someone has a good time at a great show and hurts no one but himself. It is really fun to pigeon hole people that you haven't met though. Although he was drunk off his ass he was still able to name and sing to every single song Z-Trip put on before the second bar played. Maybe next time you should get a little too drunk and have some fun instead of standing around viciously protecting your personal space. If you are so afraid of people, stay home and put on a comfy set of headphones.

Yo, I'm not talking shit to you.

Listen, ANY show I go to and someone starts pushing people who do NOT want to be pushed, well...I'm gonna bitch. Because I don't like to be slammed into means I don't like having a good time? What does my number of posts have to do with ANYTHING here anyway? I've been into Z for awhile, and I really have nothing to prove.

Anyway, it's obvious your homie wasn't very well recieved by the crowd. Great, he knew the songs and had fun. I'm not saying he can't have fun, but when people respecfully tell him to mind his space and he still acts like a drunken idiot, things like a busted open head happened (no, it wasn't me...I wouldn't ever hit a dude for something like that, but there seemed to be another person besides myself who was bugged by the guy). All I'm saying is homeboy needs to kick back. There's no reason to be all up in other people's business while having a good time.

He hurt himself, nobody hit him. Yes there was another guy there being an asshole and trying to fight him because he was drunk and got near his girlfriend on accident. People just need to chill out in general. He was just jumping around as Z instructed to and going crazy. Nobody respectfully asked him to do anything. People were being condescending and generally assholeish. He was just expressing his love for music how he knows how to (dancing around like a crazy retard). Having fun with your friends at a concert shouldn't make you inconsiderate. It was a big room and theres plenty of room for you to make out with your girlfriend at the back of the show.

respect

actually, i believe my friend, who is his good friend and in his frat, accidentally bumped into him during the nirvana track, which caused the cut.

so no one hit him intentionally.
