Z-Trip's Motown Breakdown Part1 - Download it here

Hey everyone,

Here's a link to the Motown Breakdown that some of you have been asking for.

http://www.punogre.com/ztrip/z-trip_...down_part1.mp3

I tried to keep it as good a quality as I could, without going overboard on my bandwidth limit. It's still 128kps which is CD quality.

Enjoy.

Mad thanks for posting this!

I love Z's use of the 12" version of "Motown Philly", and the transition from Marvin Gaye to Edwin Starr took me by surprise, even though I should have seen it coming. Great mix.

Thanks Shant!!

This thing fuckin' rocks!!!

What a pleasant surprise to find on a Friday morning....

So, Z-TRIP, did Motown give you access to any tracks that you didn't have access to? Just curious.

Good job taking us on a ride through one of the freshest catalogues in history.....it's funny, even with all the stuff you mixed for this, it still only scratches the surface of Motown and its' artists legacy of great music.

Now, if y'all will excuse me, i must get back to wigglin' my ass.

PEACE.OUT.

Following up... No-one at Motown knew anything about it - I asked one guy and I ended up on the phone with about 4 different people, all people who knew Z-Trip's name but said they didn't have any involvement with him or a mix specifically with Motown Records... it was all very curious. Ah, well.

Yeah, I got the same thing when I called. A couple people knew about it and said they had it there, but kept bouncing me around when I said I was interested in getting a copy or at least putting my vote in to have it released as a single. I left a message at the last transfer and haven't heard back.

What is that sample?

Hey, does anyone know what that sample is before the Marvin Gaye, "What's Goin' On?" sample? At first, I thought it was one of the soundtracks to the Cosby Show, but then a vocal started, which I don't recall from the show. If anyone knows, please let me know, thanks!

motown mix

super good. i was raised on doo-wop, motown, and all the oldies from the 50-60's. still listen to them today. anywhere that you can download this to keep on your home computer, or is it just only available to listen through the link?

Right-click the link on a PC or Option-click on a Mac. If you get a dialog box choose "Save to disk" option...

Any MP3 that streams can be saved. Some other formats can be saved too if you explore your options.

cheers

To quote Master Shake from ATHF, "that is tha shizz-niyit!" A freiend of mine turned me on to Z-Trip a while back with Uneasy Listening, Vol. 1, and I've been a fan ever since. One of the best albums to have for road trips, IMHO. And now this. Day-um, keep it up, Z!

What I like best about the mix is Z's use of songs to make a point. The part toward the end with Marvin Gaye singing "War is not the answer" into "War" into "Ball of Confusion" reflects the intelligent artistry that separates DJs like Z from the common MP3 mashup kiddies.

Think about what goes into something like this- not only does a dj have to have an encyclopedic knowledge of songs and lyrics and beats/breaks, but he has to match them so they flow musically and lyrically... It's art.

Now, we knew Z could do this in a political way (Anti-War Mix) as well as musically (Bombshelter @Future Primitive). What impresses me is that he makes a mix for Motown, using their catalogue, their directions, and he still makes a musical and political statement. My hat is off to you Z, keep rockin' us.

Thank you.

Yeah... I put a lot of thought into that aspect of it.

I'm glad it doesn't go unnoticed.

As far as part two... it won't be done for a minute.

Probably sometime after the album drops.

Peace,

Z

So I went to a local used record shop today and picked up some great stuff. I bought the best of Motown 25 years in the making (5 records) for $20. What really got me excited was that the record has every track that Z uses for his motown breakdown mix. This definitely made my day!!

The Motown Mix was limted to 500. If you see it, get it. They will never be available.

The Uneasy wax should be ready to go in a couple of weeks.

Ahh, I have listened to this track so many times already, but I have to say thank you Z for keeping this up. I am at my parents place and they happen to be watching 'Standing in the shadows of Motown' tonight (thank you DirectTv for the free preview weekend!). I just downloaded this to my dad's desktop and he is loving it already. He was already checking out 8-Mile on tv tonight, so between that and this I might be ready to call him pretty damn cool.
